Description

1,3-Dimethylimidazolium Iodide is a colorless organic solvent that is soluble in water. It has a high boiling point and can be used to dissolve other substances at high concentrations. The addition of additives such as acetonitrile, sodium chloride, and electron deficient anions can make the solution stable for longer periods of time. 1,3-Dimethylimidazolium Iodide has been shown to interact with cations such as sodium salts and chloride ions. This interaction can be seen through the formation of supramolecular structures in which the chloride ion interacts with the imidazolyl cation via hydrogen bonding.
