Dipsanoside A is a saponin that is found in the root of Dipsacus fullonum. It has been shown to be an abortifacient in pregnant women and may also have effects on bone growth. The molecule is structurally related to oleocanthal, an anti-inflammatory agent found in olive oil, and contains an amino acid sequence similar to that of human insulin. Dipsanoside A can be purified from plant cell cultures using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Dipsanoside A has been used as a marker for plants containing saponins.
