It is used in the production of polymers and copolymers. 2,4-Dichloro-1-ethynylbenzene can be polymerized to form polyethylene terephthalate (PET). 2,4-Dichloro-1-ethynylbenzene is reactive and a film forming polymer. It has been shown to have high permeability and conductivity when mixed with neodymium. The 2,4 dichloro 1 ethynylbenzene molecule contains two acetylene groups that are able to react with molybdenum atoms to form copolymers.
