4,4'-Diaminobiphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxylic acid is a chemical compound that is the product of the reaction between sulfuric acid and methanol. The reaction produces two isomers of 4,4'-diaminobiphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxylic acid: 1,1' and 1,2'. The 1,1' isomer has a higher melting point and reacts with water to produce sulfur dioxide gas and hydrogen sulfide. The impurities in this product are mainly due to the presence of 4-aminophenol.
