3-Dimethylamino-2-methyl-2-propenal is a chemical that is metabolized from the amino acid methionine. It has been detected in human urine and its presence may be used as an indicator for cancer. 3-Dimethylamino-2-methyl-2-propenal is present in both the bound and free form, with the free form being more biologically active. The presence of this compound in human urine can be used to detect cancerous cells. 3DMMPA has been detected in lung diseases and skin cancer, but it is also found at statistically significant levels in fatty acids.
