6-(Dimethylamino)fulvene is a synthetic compound which contains phenyl groups. The reaction scheme of 6-(Dimethylamino)fulvene starts with the nucleophilic attack of an electron-rich atom, such as ferrocene, on phosphorus pentachloride. This reaction produces a metal carbonyl and a phosphine oxide, which is then reduced to give the desired product. 6-(Dimethylamino)fulvene is synthesized by transmetallation in the presence of a metal catalyst. It has been shown that this compound reacts with x-rays to produce strong magnetic resonance signals at 3.5 ppm.
6-(Dimethylamino)fulvene can be used as a precursor for fulvenes and cyclopentadienyls in organic synthesis and magnetic resonance experiments.
