Product Information
4,4-Di-n-octyldithieno[3,2-b:2,3-d']silole is a polymer composed of repeating units of 4,4'-dithiophenediyl and tetradecyl. It has a lamellar structure that absorbs light in the ultraviolet region. 4,4'-Dithiophenediyl is also copolymerized with polymers such as polystyrene to make films that can be used as human eye contact lenses. The polymer's spectrum is in the range from 180 nm to 400 nm. Polymers are made by polycondensation or monomer addition reactions. Polymers are neutral and have a conformation that allows them to coil up into spheres or sheets with high molecular weights.
Polymerization of 4,4'-dithiophenediyl leads to polymers containing oligomers and neutral molecules consisting of an extended chain of alternating single and double bonds between two sulfur atoms.
