2,5-Dichlorophenylhydrazine is an inhibitor of monoamine oxidase (MAO) that is used as a research tool in the study of MAO inhibition. It has also been shown to have inhibitory effects against the growth of gram-negative bacteria such as Citrobacter, Salmonella, and Shigella. 2,5-Dichlorophenylhydrazine inhibits the activity of two enzymes: monoamine oxidase and hydrochloric acid. This agent can be used in animal studies because it does not cause convulsions or death due to its low toxicity. 2,5-Dichlorophenylhydrazine has been found to inhibit the oxidation of malondialdehyde (MDA) by molecular descriptors such as molecular weight and hydrophobicity. This agent also binds to thiourea, which may explain its inhibition of MDA oxidation by molecular descriptors. The pyrazole ring in 2,
