Difluorotungsten is a compound that terminates the DNA replication process by binding to the polymerase enzyme and preventing the continuation of DNA synthesis. This antimicrobial agent has a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria, fungi, and mammalian cells. It has been shown to be effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as yeast. Difluorotungsten binds to dna replication by inhibiting DNA polymerase from extending the lagging strand in the presence of dNTPs. This drug also has an effect on rna extraction and sequences due to its ability to inhibit the production of ribosomes. Difluorotungsten also binds to bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA, which prevents it from acting as a primer for transcription.
