2,2'-Difluorobiphenyl is an inorganic compound that contains fluorine and a phenyl group. It is a white solid with a melting point of -160°C. 2,2'-Difluorobiphenyl has been shown to react with glyoxal to form an n-oxide which has been found to be more reactive than the parent molecule. This reaction also produces electrons which can be used as energy sources for biological reactions such as oxidation of proteins or DNA. The presence of fluorine atoms on the biphenyl ring make it possible for the molecule to absorb light at wavelengths between 200 and 280 nm, making it useful in applications such as fluorescence microscopy or electron microscopy. 2,2'-Difluorobiphenyl has been shown to have dihedral angles of 109° and 117° which are higher than those found in other molecules.
