Product Information
- (1,1-Difluoroethyl)benzene
- Benzene, (1,1-Difluoroethyl)-
1,1-Difluoroethylbenzene is a compound that belongs to the family of benzyl compounds. It has been shown to be a nucleophilic alkylating agent and a versatile reagent for organic synthesis. This compound can also be used to prepare epoxides via cross-coupling reactions. 1,1-Difluoroethylbenzene has been shown to react with diethylaminosulfur trifluoride (DAST) and chloride gas in the presence of copper and zinc catalysts to form chlorofluoroalkanes. The use of this compound as a precursor in the production of polymers such as styrene monomers and cyclopentene oxide is possible. Irradiation or UV light can lead to cyclopentene oxide formation.
