Product Information

Name:
2-Deoxy-2-Fluoroinositol
Synonyms:
  • 2-Deoxy-2-fluoro-myo-inositol
  • DL-epi-Inositol, 2-deoxy-2-fluoro-
  • (1R,2S,4S,5S)-6-fluorocyclohexane-1,2,3,4,5-pentol
Description:

2-Deoxy-2-fluoroinositol is a non-metabolized sugar that is catalysed by CMP-sialic acid synthase and converted to sialylated glycoproteins. 2-Deoxy-2-fluoroinositol regulates the activity of potassium channels, which are involved in the uptake of nutrients. The uptake of 2-deoxy-2-fluoroinositol and its conversion to sialylated glycoproteins is enhanced by unlabelled cations such as K+, Na+, or Li+. This compound has been shown to have significant antiproliferative activity against prostate cancer cells and Giardia lamblia, an intestinal parasite. 2DFF also modifies fatty acids in cellular membranes, leading to a decrease in membrane fluidity.
