Product Information
- Methanesulfonamide, 1,1-Difluoro-
- 1,1-Difluoromethanesulfonamide
Difluoromethanesulfonamide is an organic compound that has a chlorine atom, two phenyl groups and a carbonyl group. It is the sodium salt of difluoromethanesulfonic acid. Difluoromethanesulfonamide is used as a pesticide for control of insects, mites and nematodes. This compound is also used in water treatment to remove organic matter from the water molecule and to help remove contaminants such as pesticides, herbicides and industrial chemicals from the water supply. Difluoromethanesulfonamide's mechanism is catalytic. The hydrogen atoms are removed to form hydrogen radicals or free radicals which react with chlorine to form hypochlorous acid (HOCl). This process can then be reversed by adding oxygen back into the equation.
