It has high reactivity and is used as a stabilizer in chemical reactions. 1,2-Dichlorotrifluoroethane also reacts with chloride nucleophiles to form the chlorofluorocarbons. The activation energy of this reaction is 34.1 kcal/mol. The reaction mechanism for this process is nucleophilic attack by the chloride ion on the carbon atom of 1,2-dichlorotrifluoroethane.
