1,4-Divinyloctafluorobutane is a high-molecular weight insoluble polymer that has been used as a linker in the synthesis of polymers with terminal alkyne groups. This polymer has been shown to be thermally stable and resistant to thermal degradation. It is crosslinked by free radicals and can be used as an additive in other polymers to increase their thermal stability. 1,4-Divinyloctafluorobutane can be synthesized from benzene or other aromatic compounds. The spectroscopy of 1,4-divinyloctafluorobutane shows bands at 2950 cm−1 and 1640 cm−1, which correspond to the stretching vibrations of the C-C bond and C-F bond respectively.
