Product Information
- Silane, Dibromochlorofluoro-
- Dibromo(chloro)fluorosilane
Dibromo(chloro)fluorosilane is a polymerization catalyst that is used in the production of polyolefins. It has been shown to catalyze the polymerization of ethylene and propylene, as well as other unsaturated hydrocarbons, with high conversion rates. Dibromo(chloro)fluorosilane also reacts with magnesium to form a highly reactive organometallic species that can be used for introducing transition metals into the polymer chain. This reagent is produced by reacting bromochlorodifluorosilane with magnesium metal in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (THF). The reaction product is a colorless liquid that has a density of 1.82 g/mL at 25°C and a vapor pressure of 2 mmHg at 25°C.
