Product Information
2,10-Difluorobenzo(a,i)Pyrene is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon with a hexacyclic structure. It is also one of the most potent carcinogens to date and has been shown to be mutagenic in both bacteria and mammals. 2,10-Difluorobenzo(a,i)Pyrene forms during the condensation of two benzo[a]pyrenes. This process occurs at the active site of enzymes called cytochrome P450s. The metabolic activation of 2,10-difluorobenzo(a,i)Pyrene can occur through either enzymatic or nonenzymatic processes. In order for this type of activation to occur, 2,10-difluorobenzo(a,i)Pyrene must first be conjugated with glutathione (GSH). Once conjugated, GSH reacts with oxygen
