Description:

3,4-Difluorophenyl isothiocyanate is a cyclization reaction product of 3,4-difluorophenol and ethyl chloroformate. The compound has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of bacterial growth. It inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the ribosome and blocking the attachment of amino acids to the growing polypeptide chain. 3,4-Difluorophenyl isothiocyanate also binds to disulfide bonds in proteins and causes them to break apart, inhibiting the formation of new proteins. This compound also inhibits DNA replication and transcription through inhibition of DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV.
