4,5-Difluoro-2-hydroxybenzonitrile (DFHB) is a drug with potential use in congestive heart failure. It has been shown to alleviate the symptoms of congestive heart failure by acting on the D4 receptor. The biochemical mechanism of action is not yet understood. This drug also acts as a neuroprotective agent by increasing glutamate levels and reducing hyperactivity in cells. This drug was shown to be effective in treating heart disease by preventing systolic dysfunction and increasing the production of organic acids, which are important for cellular growth. It is also an oxadiazole inhibitor molecule that can be used as a diagnostic tool for biochemically analyzing enzymes such as piperidine hydrochloride.
