Dysprosium trifluoromethanesulfonate is an inorganic compound of the rare earth metal dysprosium and the organic trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. It is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of about 650 degrees Celsius. Dysprosium trifluoromethanesulfonate can be used as a catalyst for Friedel-Crafts reactions, such as the synthesis of pharmaceutical drugs. In addition, dysprosium trifluoromethanesulfonate has been used to synthesize drugs to treat chronic myeloid leukemia. This drug contains a hydroxyl group that binds to hydrogen chloride and forms hydrochloric acid.
