Description:
Lipiodol is a lipophilic contrast agent used in lymphography. It is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed by esterases to 2'-deoxy-5-fluoro-3'-C-octanoyluridine, its active form. This active form has been shown to be hydrolyzed by serum albumin and bovine serum albumin, but not human serum albumin or porcine liver. Lipiodol has been found to be effective in the diagnosis of diseases such as tuberculosis and metastatic cancer of the prostate.
