Product Information

Name:
2,6-Difluoro-α-Methylbenzyl Alcohol
Synonyms:
  • 1-(2,6-Difluorophenyl)Ethanol
Description:

2,6-Difluoro-alpha-Methylbenzyl Alcohol (2,6-DMBBA) is a chiral homologation catalyst. It can be used as a heterogeneous catalyst in the synthesis of alcohols and enantiomers. 2,6-DMBBA is also used to catalyze the hydroboration of styrene derivatives such as catecholborane. The thermodynamic parameters for 2,6-DMBBA are similar to those of other alcohols, with a small solute effect. The enantiomeric purity is ˜99% for 2,6-DMBBA.
2,6-DMBBA has been shown to be effective as an antiarrhythmic agent. It has also been shown to have anticonvulsant properties in animal models of epilepsy and may prove useful in treating bipolar disorder.
