2,4-Dichloro-5-fluoro-3-formylbenzoic acid is a chlorocarbonyl compound that has been isolated from the reaction of 2,4-dichloroacetophenone with formaldehyde. It can be synthesized by reacting chloral with nitrous acid and formaldehyde. This compound has a carboxyl group at the 2 position and an aldehyde group at the 5 position on the benzoic acid nucleus. At the 3 position, there is a chlorinated carbon atom and at the 4 position, there is a chloride ion. The compound is soluble in water, but insoluble in alcohols and ethers.
