1,2-Dichloro-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluoro-cyclopentene (1,2-DCHFC) is a chlorofluorocarbon that has been used as an extractant in the analysis of metal carbonyls. 1,2-DCHFC reacts with hydrogen fluoride to produce hydrochloric acid and dichloroform. The reaction mechanism for this process is not well understood but it is believed to be due to the formation of a complex between 1,2-DCHFC and hydrogen fluoride. The reactivity of 1,2-DCHFC depends on its structural features as well as the presence of polar or nonpolar solvents.
