(3E)-2,5-Diamino-2-(fluoromethyl)-3-pentenoic acid (FABA) is an inhibitor of polyamine oxidase. It inhibits protein synthesis and activity by binding to the catalytic site of this enzyme, thereby inhibiting the production of polyamines. FABA has been shown to have tumoricidal effects in tissue culture and cell culture experiments. It also has inhibitory effects on interleukin production and ornithine decarboxylase activity, which may be due to its ability to bind to the cytosolic site of these enzymes.
