Fluorochrysene has been shown to be carcinogenic in rats and potentiates the carcinogenicity of 3-methylcholanthrene. Fluorochrysene is a fluorine atom analog of chrysene and binds to DNA in place of hydrogen atoms. This binding alters the magnetic resonance spectra and resonance energy levels, which can be used to identify its presence in tissue samples.
