Description

1,1-Difluoro-2-hydroxypropane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid is a synthetic compound that belongs to the group of emulsifying agents. It has been shown to inhibit cholesterol synthesis in rat liver cells and to increase the levels of fatty acids in adipose tissue. 1,1-Difluoro-2-hydroxypropane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid is used as an emulsifier in food and pharmaceutical preparations. This agent also has been shown to modulate carbohydrate metabolism by increasing glucose uptake and utilization. 1,1-Difluoro-2-hydroxypropane-1,2,3-tricarboxylic acid inhibits the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) through its effects on cytosolic fatty acid synthase and lipoprotein lipase activity.
