Product Information
- 2,4-Pentanedione, 1,1-difluoro-
1,1-Difluoro-2,4-pentanedione is a fluorinated carbonyl that is used in the laboratory for cytotoxic activity. It is a precursor to fluoroquinolones, which are used as antibiotics. The fluorine atom has been shown to be responsible for the cytotoxic effects of 1,1-difluoro-2,4-pentanedione in vitro. The photochemistry of this molecule occurs by intramolecular hydrogen transfer from the electron-deficient carbon adjacent to the fluorine atom to the protonated carbon on the other side of the double bond. This reaction results in a ketone and an alcohol and may be involved in cancer cell growth inhibition.
