2,6-Dinitro-4-trifluoromethylbenzenesulfonic acid sodium salt is a derivatization agent used in the analysis of pharmaceuticals. It reacts with l-glutamine to form a dinitrophenylglycine derivative that can be detected by gas chromatography. The recovery of this product is about 90%. 2,6-Dinitro-4-trifluoromethylbenzenesulfonic acid sodium salt has been shown to react with borate ions to form an insoluble borate complex. This reaction has been used as an analytical method for the determination of vitamin C content in foodstuffs and beverages. The optimum pH for this reaction is between 4 and 5.
