Product Information
3-[(3-Acrylamidopropyl)dimethylammonio]propane-1-sulfonate (APS) is a water soluble and non-toxic crosslinking agent that is used in the chemical modification of proteins to form conjugates. The APS can be used as a chemical probe for the detection of metal ions, such as iron. It also functions as a chelating agent and has been shown to have preventative effects against cancer. APS has been shown to copolymerize with other molecules, such as ammonium persulfate and deionized water. It can also be synthesized by reacting sodium sulfite with acrylamide, followed by hydrolysis with sodium hydroxide. This synthesis requires high salt concentrations and hydration, which may not be practical for large scale production.
