Product Information
2-Chloro-N-(4-pyridyl)acetamide (2CPA) is an antibiotic that is a synthetic compound. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against gram-negative bacteria and is used in the treatment of pyogenic infections. 2CPA selectively binds to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, preventing bacterial protein synthesis and leading to cell death. 2CPA was first synthesized in 1972 by irradiation of chloroacetamide with ultraviolet light. The technique has been modified to allow for the synthesis of 2CPA on a larger scale.
2CPA has also been shown to inhibit the growth of gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis, although it is not active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
