Product Information

Name:
2-Iodo-N-isopropylacetamide
Description:

2-Iodo-N-isopropylacetamide (2IA) is an alkylating agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA and RNA. It can be used in vitro to study the effects of radiation on urinary proteins. Streptomyces coelicolor, a bacterium that produces 2IA, has been shown to produce this compound in vivo and 2IA has been detected in the urine of mice treated with 2IA. The use of 2IA as a radiation sensitizer for cancer therapy is being investigated as it may increase the efficacy of radiotherapy.
2IA has also been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in cells. This inhibition is caused by the binding of 2IA to cellular macromolecules such as proteins and RNA, which prevents their function as enzymes or structural components. The molecular interactions with these macromolecules are characterized using molecular modelling techniques and computational chemistry methods such as molecular dynamics simulations, quantum mechanical calculations, and molecular docking
