Product Information
- 5-Bromonicotinic acid ethyl ester
- Ethyl 5-bromopyridine-3-carboxylate
Ethyl-5-bromonicotinate (EBrA) is an analog of nicotinic acetylcholine that has been synthesized to study the receptor binding and uptake. EBrA can be used as a lead compound for potential therapeutic use due to its ability to bind to cholinergic receptors and stimulate nerve cells. The synthesis of EBrA was accomplished by borohydride reduction of ethyne chloride, followed by cross-coupling with maleic anhydride in the presence of a palladium catalyst. This reaction yielded a chloroformate ester intermediate, which was then treated with hydrochloric acid to give the final product.
