Ethyl-2-cyano-3-methyl-2-butenoate is a long chain carboxylic acid that is used as an energy source in the body. It is also a structural component of medications, such as 3-amino-2 chloro pyridine. The compound can be synthesized by reacting c1 - 4 alkyl halides with ethylene oxide. Reaction of ethyl 2 cyano 3 methyl 2 butenoate with peroxide produces long chain carboxylic acids, alcohols and alkanes.
