N2-1[(1S)-Ethoxycarbonyl-3-phenylpropyl]-N6-trifluoroacetyl-L-lysyl-L-proline (ETP) is a conjugate of an inorganic acid and an organic compound. The conjugates are formed by the reaction of magnesium with an inorganic base, which generates a molecule and a hydroxide solution. The addition of an organic solvent to the reaction solution gives rise to a carboxylic acid and an alcohol. The carboxylic acid is then reacted with sodium trifluoroacetate to form ETP. ETP has been shown to decrease the levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as reduce cardiovascular risks such as dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis.
