7-Ethoxy-4-(trifluoromethyl)coumarin (7EtC) is a chemical inhibitor that binds to the active site of cytochrome P450 enzymes and inhibits their activity. 7EtC has been shown to inhibit xanthine oxidase, glutathione reductase, and cytochrome p450 enzymes. 7EtC was found to be more potent than other coumarin derivatives in inhibiting the catalytic activity of liver microsomes from rats. 7EtC also has been shown to have a high degree of stability in the presence of various enzyme activities and under different experimental conditions. This drug also has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacterial strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
