Ethyl (pentafluorobenzoyl)acetate is an antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the active site of the enzyme protein-tyrosine phosphatase. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against a number of bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Escherichia coli. This compound also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in degenerative diseases such as arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Ethyl (pentafluorobenzoyl)acetate is an analog of pentafluorophenyltetrahydropyridine.
