4-ethoxy-2,3-difluorobenzaldehyde is a difluorinated benzaldehyde that can be used in the synthesis of cyclopentenes and cyclopropanes. It can be prepared by the reaction of anisotropically substituted cyclopentene with an alkylmagnesium halide. The yields are typically low and it is not possible to use this method for large scale production. 4-ethoxy-2,3-difluorobenzaldehyde can also be obtained by saponification of esters with hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide in ethanol. 4-ethoxy-2,3-difluorobenzaldehyde has optical isomers, which are crystalline solids that melt at different temperatures.
