Ethyl 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-2,4-dioxobutanoate is a polymerase inhibitor that inhibits transcription in mammalian cells. It has been shown to be effective against cancer cells and human diseases. Ethyl 4-(4-fluorophenyl)-2,4-dioxobutanoate has been found to inhibit the activity of polymerases by interacting with the terminal transferase enzyme and preventing the addition of nucleotides to the growing DNA chain. This inhibition leads to impaired transcription and eventually cell death.
