9-Ethyl-9H-carbazole-3-carboxylic acid is a fluorescent dye that has interactions with vinyl groups and disassembles chains. 9-Ethyl-9H-carbazole-3-carboxylic acid can be synthesized from carbazole, which is a cyclic compound. It emits light in the visible region of the spectrum and has an emission maximum wavelength of about 430 nm. 9EtC is used as a luminescence indicator for the presence of trace amounts of metals such as copper and lead, as well as for monitoring reactions involving these metals. The compound is also used in the field of chemistry to study planarity in solid state reactions and to test for terminal alkyl chain products.
