Description:

5-Ethyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione is a chemical compound that has been used as an antimicrobial agent. It is a white powder with a melting point of 145°C. 5-Ethyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione is soluble in acetone and benzene but insoluble in water. The substance can be used to synthesize substituted indoles and quinolines by reduction of the corresponding nitro compounds. 5-Ethyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione can also be used to produce isatins from cereus acid by reaction with ammonium salts.
