Description

Ethyl 3-(1-adamantyl)-3-oxopropanoate is an organic compound with the formula CHCHCH(CO)O. It is a heterocyclic compound, consisting of an adamantane ring system with a propanoic acid substituent. This compound has been used to synthesize nitrites from hydroxylamine and sodium nitrite. Nitrosation of ethyl 3-(1-adamantyl)-3-oxopropanoate produces the corresponding nitroso compounds. Condensation of ethyl 3-(1-adamantyl)-3-oxopropanoate with hydrazine produces hydrazones. The condensation products can be converted to aldehydes by reaction with hydroxylamine and hydrochloric acid.
