- Benzoic Acid, 2-(Ethylthio)-
2-(Ethylthio)benzoic acid is an acyl halide that is used as a ligand for organocuprates. 2-(Ethylthio)benzoic acid has been shown to be reactive with biphenyl, phenetole and acetonitrile. It is insoluble in water and organic solvents, and can be synthesized by reacting ethyl iodide with acetone. The postulated structure of this compound is an ethyl group attached to the sulfur atom of the benzoic acid. 2-(Ethylthio)benzoic acid absorbs light at a wavelength of about 270 nm, which provides it with a greenish color.
