Ethyl N-(4-chlorophenyl)glycinate (4-CPG) is a chalcone with a molecular weight of 220.13 g/mol and an elemental composition of C, H, O, Cl. 4-CPG has been synthesized as a single compound in the form of a white solid. The crystal structure was determined to be planar with four atoms in each asymmetric unit and two hydrogen bonds. 4-CPG has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against microbial strains such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA.
