Ethyl 4,6-dihydroxynicotinate is a potentiating agent that has been shown to be active against cancer cells. It is used as an adjuvant therapy in combination with nevirapine for the treatment of HIV-1 infection and it has been shown to have anti-HIV activities. Ethyl 4,6-dihydroxynicotinate also inhibits tyrosine kinase activity and prevents the phosphorylation of the oncogenic protein y181c. This drug is also an inhibitor of DNA polymerase, which is important for replication and transcription.
