Description:

Ethyl 5-bromo-2-hydroxybenzoate is a hydrogen bonded heterocyclic compound. It has a crystal structure consisting of the hydroxyl group and the sulfoxide group in a 1:1 ratio. The carbonyl group is in the center of the molecule, with two hydroxyl groups on either side. Hydrogen bonds form between the carbonyl group and both hydroxyl groups, as well as between the carbonyl group and the sulfoxide group. There are also π-π interactions between one of the hydroxyl groups and one of the phenyl rings. This compound can be used as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals, dyes, and other organic compounds.
