Description:
Ethyl 5-aminonicotinate is a pyridine analog that is structurally similar to the amidines, but with an ethyl group attached to the nitrogen. The benzene ring also has two methyl groups attached. This compound binds to guanidine receptors and blocks their activity in nerve cells, which leads to the development of seizures. In addition, it inhibits the synthesis of thiophen in bacteria and has been shown to have some biological activity.
