1-Ethyl-6,7-difluoro-4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylic acid is a heterocyclic compound that is structurally related to the quinolones. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against organisms such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 1-Ethyl-6,7-difluoro-4-oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3 carboxylic acid inhibits bacterial growth by binding to DNA gyrase and DNA topoisomerase IV. The compound also has an inhibitory effect on RNA synthesis.
