1-Ethyl-5-nitro-1H-pyrazole is a small molecule that has been found to have the ability to absorb ultraviolet light and convert it into visible light. This chemical has an imidazole ring with a nitrogen atom in the 1 position and a nitro group in the 5 position. It can be protonated by strong acids, such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid, as well as by bases such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. The basicity of 1-ethyl-5-nitro-1H-pyrazole is higher than that of pyridine, which makes it more reactive. The shift in the wavelength of light absorbed by this compound is larger when compared to other nitroimidazoles. The spectra for 1E5NP are different from those for other nitroimidazoles because it has an ethyl group instead of an isoamyl group at the 1 position
