Description

1-(2-Ethylphenyl)-1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione is an inhibitor of phospholipase A2. It inhibits the production of arachidonic acid and the release of inflammatory prostaglandins. It also has an inhibitory effect on lipids, including fatty acids and cholesterol, which are important for cell growth. The inhibitory mechanism may be due to its ability to block the activation of protein kinase C by phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate. 1-(2-Ethylphenyl)-1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione also inhibits platelet activation by inhibiting the synthesis of arachidonic acid from phosphatidylcholine.
